Exercising while on Vacation

When I get asked by friends if I exercise while on vacation, they are shocked that I would say yes. Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean your exercise routine goes on vacation too, in my opinion. Getting in some physical activity during your vacation is better than skipping it all together! Generally when I go on vacation there is usually a gym in the hotel or cruise ship I am on. However, for my next vacation I won’t have access to a gym as the hotels I am staying in don’t have one. Here are some simple tips to get in some exercise during your vacation:

  • If you can’t fit in 1 hour workouts, doing even 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise is still beneficial
  • Instead of running on the treadmill, explore your destination by going for a jog or run instead
  • If you don’t have access to a gym, bring a resistance band as they can be used for a variety of exercises
  • You can do exercises with just your own body weight if you don’t have access to a gym or forgot to bring your resistance band(s). Examples include: squats, hip raises, push-up’s, plank
  • Go for walks after meals to get your steps in
  • If you have a step tracker, make sure to wear it to keep track of how many steps you are getting in each day
  • Sign up for a fitness class if the gym offers one
